Make A Difference

While strolling along a vast beach densely scattered with thousands of starfish left stranded by the receding tide, an older man encountered a young boy diligently working alone. The boy was intently engaged in retrieving the stranded sea creatures, one by one, and gently returning them to the ocean. Puzzled, the man paused and asked the boy about his monumental task. The boy, without halting his work, simply stated, "I'm saving these starfish, Sir." The elder man smiled wryly, pointing out the overwhelming odds: "Son, there are thousands of starfish here, and you are only one person. 

What possible difference can your effort make?

" The boy paused, carefully picked up another starfish, and tossed it back into the shimmering water. Turning to the man, he offered the profound reply that silenced the skepticism: "I made a difference to that one!"
